The population of Norwegian spring-spawning herring is potentially Europe's largest fish stock, and it is a key fishery  in Northern European waters.   Herring is an oily fish,  which move in the deep ocean in vast schools.  The species is a vegetarian, feeding on zooplankton throughout its life.   Oily fish are a good source of Vitamins A and D as well as being rich in omega 3 fatty acids. For this reason the consumption of oily fish has been identified as especially  beneficial to human health.     Amongst other benefits, scientific studies suggest that the omega 3 fatty acids in oily fish may help sufferers of depression, reduce the likelihood of heart disease, and improve inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.
Lofoten Viking AS produces and exports a wide range of the world's leading quality frozen herring and capelin products. All our pellagic products are packed in 20 kg cartons, as standard. The raw material from the ocean is harvested right outside our island, so we are as close to the fishing grounds as possible. This guarantees our products are of the highest quality available in the world,  processed within the shortest possible time at our  state-of-the-art processing factory. Our newly installed cold store,  has a capacity of 8000 metric tonnes.
