Haddock

Haddock

Melanogrammus aeglefinus

Haddock is a bottom-dwelling fish that lives at depths of between 40 and 300 metres. Its most important spawning grounds are in the North Sea, along the edge of the continental shelf off Møre og Romsdal County and off Southwest Iceland and the Faeroe Islands. Young haddock in the Barents Sea are relatively territorial, whereas larger fish undertake long migrations. For example, they migrate down along the coast of Northern Norway and the banks off the coast of Troms County to spawn. Haddock is fished all year, but in the summertime, a special haddoc fishery by means of floating long lines takes Place off the coast of eastern Finnmark.

The factories have a lot of small coastal vessels as suppliers of fresh fish. These vessels have a short way from the catching area to the local factory. In that way the fish is guaranteed to be fresh  when it is packed and ready to be shipped out to the customers.
